Cutting out a subject from its background used to mean a subscription site that uploads your photo, or half an hour with the pen tool. This tool runs an AI segmentation model directly in your browser to isolate the subject and make the background transparent - no upload, no account, no watermark on the result. Your photos are processed on your own device, which is a genuine difference from the popular background-removal sites that send every image to their servers.

What it's good at (and what's hard)

The model handles the common cases well: people, products, animals and objects with a reasonably clear edge against a distinct background. Portraits for ID photos, product shots for a store listing, or a headshot to drop onto a colored background all work cleanly. Genuinely hard edges - fine flyaway hair, glass, motion blur, or a subject that blends into a similar-colored background - are where any automatic tool struggles, so results vary with the photo.

The first run downloads the model into your browser, so it takes a few seconds; after that, cutouts are fast because everything is already local.
