Frequently asked questions

Why convert to WebP?

WebP files are typically 25-35% smaller than JPG at the same quality - great for websites.

Why convert WebP to JPG?

Some older software and platforms don't accept WebP; JPG opens everywhere.

Convert to and from WebP

WebP is the format the modern web quietly runs on - roughly 25-30% smaller than JPG at the same quality, with support for transparency like PNG. This converter turns JPG and PNG images into WebP to shrink your page weight, and converts WebP back to JPG or PNG when a tool or platform won't accept it. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Why WebP is worth the switch

For a website, images are usually the heaviest thing on the page, and WebP's smaller files mean faster loads and better Core Web Vitals scores without any visible quality loss. It does both jobs at once: lossy compression for photos (replacing JPG) and lossless with transparency for graphics (replacing PNG). Every current browser has supported it for years, so there's little reason not to serve WebP to visitors.

The one catch is older tools and some upload forms that predate WebP - which is exactly why the reverse conversion here matters, letting you keep WebP for the web and export JPG or PNG on demand.

Quality settings

Converting into WebP re-encodes the image, so a quality slider applies - 80 is visually indistinguishable from the source for nearly all photos while cutting size hard. Converting a PNG graphic to lossless WebP keeps every pixel exact and still saves space. If you're batch-optimising a whole site's images, convert once from your highest-quality originals rather than from already-compressed JPGs, and you'll get the smallest files without stacking compression artifacts. For other formats, our Image Converter handles the full set.
